Dr Sam completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Science (BSc) at the University of Queensland. He is a General Practitioner and Fellow with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), where he received an award for the highest score obtained in the fellowship examinations. He is the President and a Fellow of the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine (ASLM), which focusses on managing conditions with lifestyle measures including nutrition, movement, mind states, social connection, connection to nature, online & advanced technology, health coaching techniques and public policy evolution.
He is a GP in private practice, Clinical Research Fellow at the University of the Sunshine Coast Mind and Neuroscience Thompson Institute, Senior Lecturer and Medical Educator with James Cook University (JCU) College of Medicine and Dentistry, Vocational Medical Officer in psychiatry with Queensland Health and host of The GP Show podcast. He has a clinical research focus on lifestyle and social determinants in those with mental illness.
In his spare time he studies and practices functional movement, martial arts, the Wim Hof technique, permaculture and bush survival.
